Parent Primer
What to expect when you register for dance!
Class Etiquette:
Be on time for class. If you are a high level dancer, being a few minutes early is helpful for preparing yourself.
All dancers must adhere to the dress code specific to the discipline they are registered for. You can find the dress code on our website under class descriptions.
Hair must be worn out of face at all times. Please come prepared with a hair tie.
Dancers must have the appropriate shoes for class.
Attendance:
Each session is 15-19 weeks respectively (that is only 15 hours of dance in 4 months if your dancer is taking only one class).
Attendance is crucial. We understand that unexpected circumstances may arise, but we ask that you make every effort to keep dance a priority in your schedule. This is not only for your dancer, but for the other dancers in their class who are learning intricate choreography to be performed at the end of the semester.
More than 3 absences (without make up classes) in a high level class could result in a forfeit of their recital performance privileges.
Make up classes are available weekly. Please contact McKayla in the event you need to schedule a make up class.
Recital/Dress Rehearsal:
Our end of season recitals are a highlight for our dancers!
Recitals showcase progress and skill, build confidence, develop teamwork and collaboration, improve discipline and focus and create lasting memories.
Although we are not competing against other studios, our dance classes are as much a team as any sport. Your dancer’s attendance in rehearsals and classes is crucial to creating the best performance experience possible for them and their team.
Dress rehearsal is mandatory!
Dress rehearsals are mandatory because they provide the last full-scale practice of a performance before the actual show, allowing for adjustments to technical aspects, costume familiarity, and overall confidence building. They simulate the actual performance conditions, giving the cast and crew a chance to fine-tune details and ensure a smooth, polished presentation on opening night.
Dancers who miss dress rehearsal usually struggle during their performance and put the rest of their team at risk of doing the same.
Dancer’s Intention/Class Selection
What class is right for my dancer?
Ages 2-8yrs
Classes for ages 2-8yrs are leveled by age only.
Our youngest dancers are guided into creative movement, and combo ballet/tap classes in order for them to understand the basic principles of dance before moving into other disciplines.
Ages 8-12yrs
If your student is new to dance, it’s recommended that they begin with a basic beginner ballet or jazz class.
If your student has been dancing for a few years, it’s recommended that they take Beginning Ballet to continue building upon their basic knowledge of technique and terminology, as well as adding another style to their schedule this year. (Poms, jazz, MT jazz)
If your dancer has been dancing for more than 3 years and is interested in leveling up to pointe shoes in the next few years, it is required they take Pre Pointe classes.
Ages 13-18yrs
If your student is new to dance, it is recommended they take a beginner class in any discipline.
If your student has been taking one class for 3 or more years, it is recommended they take a level 2 or 3 class.
If your student is interested in dancing recreationally, one hour a week is acceptable.
If your student has aspirations to move forward with dance or theatre as a career, try out for a high school dance team, or dance in college, it is highly recommended they take more than one hour of dance per week.
